An interview with Karyn Clements
…by Karyn Clements 😉
It’s always been on my list to be famous enough, to be interviewed by a rad magazine or a cool artist. Seeing as that may never happen, I’ve decided to interview myself….
Where were you born and where do you live?
I was born in Joondalup, WA and currently live in Bayswater, WA. I have lived in roughly 15 houses since the age of 9. There is an insatiable itch, that I have to move somewhere new after living in the same house for a few years.
How does where you live affect your photography?
The weather in Perth is generally always good. We have bright sunny skies (what feels like) 95% of the time. It’s good for shooting because it’s generally mild weather, although our summers can get quite hot. I do envy the Melbourne weather, because you can count on some epic moody scenes, but we do have it pretty good here in Perth. Nothing is too far to drive to, whether it’s the city, the coast, the country side…
Your favourite type of wine?
Malbec, Tempranillo or Grenache. Recently discovered I REALLY don’t like merlot / cab cav.
First celebrity crush?
Orlando Bloom….. ohhhhh Legolas.
What grinds your gears?
People slamming doors. Just close it quietly…
And haunts your dreams?
Never fulfilling my artistic fantasies (and more practically, cockroaches, sharks, open water. You know, the things that can kill you :/ )
What are you currently listening to?
Kate Bush – Hounds of Love (so much nostalgia)
What is the last book you read?
Bram Stoker’s Dracula – classic
Last Netflix show you watched?
The Level, Body Guard – both great British dramas. And just started watching Making A Murderer.
What do you do to keep inspired?
Watch indie films, read literature, listen to Gary V, see what my friends are up to, surf the corners of the web for new ideas, poetry, artists.
The app can you cannot live without?
All my banking apps. And instagram (for now).
Who do you wish you could have dinner with alive or dead?
Mmmmm so many people… Probably Emma Watson, or Orlando Bloom.
Are you a jealous type of person?
Yaasss. But I’m also a romantic 🙂
Things you value most in a person?
Honesty, Loyalty, good communication and ironed t-shirts.
Did you have a good child hood?
Yes and No. Lots of good memories and not so good ones. But I’m glad that I have so many good memories with my sisters. I have three of them.
Were you a N.E.R.D in high school?
Yup. But also that “boyfriend” girl, as someone from my high-school told me recently! Haha!
What do you love the most about photography?
It gives me the freedom to be creative, in a tangible, practical way, instead of remaining stuck in my head with all my ideas. And I get to make so many people’s day when I hand back their final images.
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be?
An actress, singer and dancer 🙂 I can be quite dramatic, and I love to sing and dance.
Something you wish you could change about yourself for 2019?
So many things, I am forever seeking perfection, (unattainable, I know!). I tend to always come back to wanting to be more disciplined, but recently I’ve accepted that maybe that’s where the magic lies, in the unorganised chaos.
Words of advice for anyone getting married?
Invest in a great photographer – all you have once it’s all over are your memories and you don’t want anyone to stuff that up 😉
